Late Campanian Climatic-Continental Weathering Assessment and Its Influence on Source Rocks Deposition in Southern Tethys, Egypt

چکیده
Climatic variability and silicate weathering are remarkable features throughout the Late Cretaceous period. Campanian black shale is considered most significant source rock in southern Tethys. Here, we used mineralogical geochemical data to evaluate continental intensity climatic changes as well their impact on deposition of Western Desert Egypt. The studied has a relatively high concentration Al, Fe, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ga, Co, Cr, V when compared average Post-Archean Australian Shales (PAAS). samples have elevated values Ga/Rb, low Rb/Sr, Sr/Cu, K2O/Al2O3, supporting under warm/humid conditions. Furthermore, chemical index alteration (CIA, 78.6%), (CIW; 83.8%), C-value (1.26), Fe/Mn (408), Mg/Ca (1.54) reveal predominance climate. proxies CIW, PIA, LnAl2O3/Na2O) ACNK diagram imply that were exposed moderate grade alteration. occurred seawater salinity conditions based Sr/Ba (Avg = 3.6). Additionally, indices correlated with paleoclimatic proxies, suggesting strongly affected by paleoclimate. However, during weak influence oceanic nutrient fluxes. No substantial paleoclimate water was reported.

The fossil record of centrosaurine ceratopsids is largely restricted to the northern region of western North America (Alberta, Montana and Alaska). Exceptions consist of single taxa from Utah (Diabloceratops) and China (Sinoceratops), plus otherwise fragmentary remains from the southern Western Interior of North America. Here, we describe a remarkable new taxon, Nasutoceratops titusi n. gen. et...

متن کاملConstraints on continental crustal mass loss via chemical weathering using lithium and its isotopes.
Chemical weathering, as well as physical erosion, changes the composition and shapes the surface of the continental crust. However, the amount of continental material that has been lost over Earth's history due to chemical weathering is poorly constrained. Using a mass balance model for lithium inputs and outputs from the continental crust, we find that the mass of continental crust that has be...
متن کاملTransient episodes of mild environmental oxygenation and oxidative continental weathering during the late Archean
It is not known whether environmental O2 levels increased in a linear fashion or fluctuated dynamically between the evolution of oxygenic photosynthesis and the later Great Oxidation Event. New rhenium-osmium isotope data from the late Archean Mount McRae Shale, Western Australia, reveal a transient episode of oxidative continental weathering more than 50 million years before the onset of the G...
متن کاملChemical weathering indices applied to weathering profiles developed on heterogeneous felsic metamorphic parent rocks
Chemical weathering indices are commonly used for characterizing weathering profiles by incorporating bulk major element oxide chemishy inlo a single metric for each sample. Generally, on homogeneous parent rocks, weathering indices change systematically with depth. However, the weathering of heterogeneous metamorphic rocks confounds the relationship between weathering index and depth. In this ...
